Weekend Trip to Alabama

We took an unexpected trip to Alabama this past weekend when my grandfather (Pop) passed away. At first, I was going to make the trip on my own, but I was very glad that Lindsay and the boys decided to join me.

Here's Palmer hanging out in the front seat:

On our way down, we stopped off in Nashville for lunch and to let the boys run around for a while. It had been 7 long years since we had eaten at one of our favorite restaurants from Atlanta - Taqueria del Sol - so we just had to stop by their new Nashville location for queso and chips.

We also stopped at Centennial Park in downtown Nashville for a picnic and to let Reese run around

We had a lot of fun in Nashville

On our first night, we stopped just outside of Huntsville (the home of NASA's Space Camp) and stayed at a hotel.

The next morning we drove down to Tuscaloosa for the service. I was honored to serve as a pallbearer and it was a beautiful service. My dad's side of the family is pretty close-knit and it was really good to see family we hadn't seen in years.

During the services the boys got a little restless

One of the best parts of the service was the Marine Honor Guard that was there for the services (Taps was played), as Pop earned a Purple Heart in the Marines during World War II and fought at Iwo Jima.

Pop visited my parents a few years ago and got to meet Reese. Here's four generations of Williams men.

It was great to celebrate Pop's life with so many close family and friends. We'll miss him!
